A Lifetime of Service & Regulation
Pat Patterson proudly enlisted in the United States Army in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1972 at the rank of E-5. He served one year in Vietnam, from 1968 to 1969, in the Army Corp of Engineers. Upon returning to civilian life, he decided to continue his education, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health from the University of Houston, Clear Lake. He is a Certified Safety Professional, certified by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. He has held certifications as a Loss Control Representative with the Texas Department of Insurance and is a Field Safety Representative and Approved Professional Source with the Texas Workers Compensation Commission.
He is a past executive committee member of the National Safety Council, Construction Section, and has instructed numerous safety, health, and fire prevention programs for numerous companies, including a past instructor for San Jacinto College, located in Pasadena, Texas, and the Texas A&M Fire Training School. Pat has served as Manager of Safety, Health, Security, and Terminal Environment for a major bulk liquid chemical storage and distribution facility and Corporate Manager of Loss Control for a major high-rise, road, and bridge contractor. Prior to that, Pat began his career in safety with Diamond Shamrock Chemical Corporation as Safety and Fire Protection Supervisor.
He has spent innumerable hours teaching safety, security, and fire protection training to multiple clients. After September 11, 2001, he and Richard Wimberly, LAAP's security specialist, conducted terrorist threat training for the FBI and numerous police and security agencies in New York City. Afterwards, Pat decided to modify the program to conduct the training at the worker level, after the realization that the workers themselves are the eyes and ears of any company and are in a distinct position to prevent or avert a terrorist situation.
Today, Pat and his team members at LAAP provide safety, security, and quality assessments and training to various clients across the United States in an effort to assist them to provide a safe environment for employees, contractors, and visitors entering their businesses. In addition, our team assists companies in becoming certified in ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, along with receiving OSHA approval under their Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). Their "Total Safety Management" program builds the framework for this certification and approval.
